TORRINGTON – Grave side services for Loren Dean Eckel, 69, will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018, at the Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna, Neb., with Pastor Jeff Zinnel officiating. Military honors will be given as well. Loren died at Community Hospital on May 18, 2018. 

Memorials may be given to Moose Charities. A memorial service in Torrington will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington and the Rasmussens Mortuary in Ravenna.

Loren was born June 21, 1948, in Bristol Township, Neb., the son of Sylvester and Velma (Criffield) Eckel. He grew up and received his education in Bristol. He worked there until he joined the US Army in 1968. He was discharged in 1974 and returned to Nebraska to help farm with his father. He married Debra Warner and they later divorced. He moved to the western Nebraska/eastern Wyoming area where he worked on several different farms and ranches.

Loren enjoyed rodeoing, breaking horses and socializing with family and friends. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

Loren is survived by his daughter Ann (Derek) Baker, granddaughter Athena Baker and sister Rita Sonnenfeld, all of Torrington; a brother Leroy Eckel of Ravenna; step-daughter Dona Rae Brownrigg-Wood of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a step-granddaughter; two step-grandsons; a step-great-grandson; five nephews; two nieces; a step-niece and step-nephew Danielle Beltz and DW Beltz; and his ex-wife Debra Warner of Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
