Goshen County hen lays down on job

With the accent now being placed on increased production of farm products, many are of the belief that something should be done about a hen that shirks on her job.

Such a hen is owned by Jonas Christner, a farmer residing about 16 miles north of Torrington, who last week discovered the “slacker” had laid a gourd-shaped egg, about one inch in length, in one of the nests in the chicken house.

The egg is now on display in the office window of the Telegram and is attracting a great deal of attention.

Air service to start here April 1

Trans-States Airways, a new, Wyoming-based aviation company, will inaugurate twice-daily passenger and freight service between Cheyenne and Casper with intermediate stops at Wheatland, Torrington and Douglas, about April 1, according to an announcement made today by F. V. Stephenson, TSA president.

“All statistics we’ve studied indicate Wyoming communities such as these not only need but will support daily air passenger and freight service,” Stephenson said.

The company official said service to the five Wyoming cities was scheduled to begin April 1, pending final FAA approval. Tickets for all flights will be available at specific locations in each community when service begins, said K. C. Sutherland, general manager and chief pilot for the airline.

Both morning and afternoon flights are scheduled to make the best possible connections with major airline flights out of Cheyenne and Casper, Sutherland said.

Murder puzzle not complete

Children were swinging and cows chomping grass in fields like nothing ever happened in the quiet neighborhood on Radio Road near Torrington on Sunday.

The serene picture was not like the scene that unfolded just hours before, when gunfire erupted, leaving two people dead and three injured.

The shooting spree in this rural area, when began around 5:20 a.m., ended with Torrington resident Raymond S. Esquibel shot by Frances Stibal, according to information from the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office.

A press release said Esquibel allegedly began randomly shooting at Betty Posten, 54, as she was leaving for work in Lingle. George Posten, her husband, and Harold Hauf were shot and killed while attempting to assist Betty. Another man, James Elwood, was injured in the incident.
