New bank building soon to be erected

A fine new bank building is soon to be erected by the First National Bank of Torrington.

The present building is to be torn down and a new one erected in its place of pressed brick.

This only adds to our previous contention that Torrington is growing, and growing rapidly.

The material is being furnished by the Foster Lumber Company and the building will cost about $25,000 when completed, which will be by about Dec. 1.

J. A. Helmerick left for camp Wednesday

J.A. Helmerick, county agent and a popular young man of Torrington, left Wednesday night for Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, Ky., to enter the officers training camp there.

We wish J.A. all the luck in the world and will be proud of him when he comes marching home with a Hun scalp fast on his belt.

Morning storm causes flooding, crop damage

As Goshen County residents were nestled in their beds early Wednesday morning, a violent storm of rain, hail and high winds whipped through sections of the county, leaving in its wake damaged crops and flooded irrigation ditches.

Shortly after the storm hit, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne issued a flash flood warning at 1:20 a.m. for the county. By 2:20 a.m., golf-ball-sized hail was reported in Torrington and at 6:30 a.m., the rain had fallen as much as five inches in parts of the region.

According to the NWS, the harsh storm was restricted to Goshen County, as the remaining areas of the state had predominately clear skies.

Preparations begin for

ethanol plant construction

The proposed ethanol plant south of Torrington is about to become a reality as test wells and core samples are taken in preparation of laying the cement foundation.

Brimm Energy Inc., representative Jim Glancy said construction is on schedule.

“We at Brimm are moving along,” he said. “We have established a separate company for the ethanol plant and it will be known as the Wyoming Ethanol Limited Liability Corporation.

Construction should be finished by the spring of 1994. The plant will employ 25 people, with the plant manager already hired.
