Locals take part in N.M. meet

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Lingle-Fort Laramie graduate Kyland Fuller and Southeast High School graduate Ryan Clapper took part in the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico last Saturday.

Fuller and Clapper, along with several others from around the state, represented Wyoming at the meet.

They were invited to take part in the meet by Rose Brown, former Natrona County boys’ coach who is currently the Wyoming State Selection Chairman and US Track & Field Representative

Fuller competed in the 200 and 400-meter dashes, while Clapper ran in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Clapper finished 17th in the 100-meter dash in 11.27 seconds. The time was fastest among the four Wyoming runners competing in the event. Clapper also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in 22.29 seconds. Fuller was 32nd in the race in 23.30 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash, Fuller broke the 50-second barrier in 49.86 seconds, setting a personal record time.

As a team, the boys finished eighth with 25 points. Missouri won the team title with 176 points. Athletes from Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Louisiana, Nevada, Iowa, Texas, Oklahoma and North Carolina were also represented at the meet.

Both Clapper and Fuller will be attending Chadron State College this fall to run track.
