TORRINGTON – On top of the eight individuals and three relays that already qualified for the state track meet, Goshen County athletes qualified in seven additional individual events and six relays this week.
All of the qualifying performances came from Lingle-Fort Laramie after they competed in two invitationals last week, taking part in the Mitchell, Neb. Invitational on Thursday and the Guernsey-Sunrise Invitational on Saturday.
For the Lady Doggers, three relay teams put down state qualifying times in Mitchell. In the 400-meter relay, Kaylynn Jefferson, Kaylan Maez, Kalli Nichol and Jade Cooper clocked a time of 57.04 seconds. They are the only 400-meter relay team to have qualified so far.
In the longer relays, Cooper, along with Jenny Manus, Jenna Kaufman and Shelby Heilbrun finished the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:56.50. They are the second 1600-meter relay team for the Lady Doggers to pre-qualify. Manus, Kaufman, Heilbrun and Makenna Steely hooked up for the 3200-meter relay, qualifying for the state meet with a time of 12:02.55.
Tyler Hunt picked up two titles in Guernsey on Saturday and in doing so, he qualified for the state meet in both the discus and shot put. In the disc, he has the longest qualifying throw so far (129 feet, 2 inches). He already qualified for the state meet with a previous, shorter throw this spring.
