MITCHELL, Neb. – Both Lingle-Fort Laramie track and field teams finished a close second place to Mitchell, Nebraska at the annual George Calvert Invite last Friday.
The LFL boys finished only two points behind Mitchell, scoring 151 points, while the Lady Doggers scored 123.75 points, only nine points behind Mitchell.
“We had a very successful day,” LFL coach Mike Lashley said. “We were pleased that we came very close to winning the meet with both teams.”
The Doggers and Lady Doggers combined for 34 personal records on the day, while the boys’ 4x400-meter relay team of Nolan Spears, Slade Hopkins, Louden Bremer and Kyland Fuller set a new meet record in 3 minutes, 35.06 seconds.
The meet also served as an experiment for trying new athletes in some new events.
“These kids placed in their new events, so we will probably continue to compete them in these events,” Lashley said.
Hopkins also picked up a win in the 200-meter dash, while Fuller scored wins in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run. In the distance events, Myles Wilson won the 1,600-meter run, while Remington Bremer placed second in the 3,200.
Louden Bremer picked up a win in the 300-meter hurdles and was second in the 110 hurdles.
In field events, Boyd Oliver won discus.
In the girls’ division, junior Maddy Saul won the 200-meter dash and finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash.
Two Lady Dogger relay teams picked up wins. The 4x100 team of Grace Gibson, Tiah Meyer, Kenzie Wilkins and Saul, along with the 4x400 team of Addy Scott, Holly Leiseth, Hailey Smith and Josie Houk.
Meyer also finished second in long jump and the 200-meter dash and third in the triple jump.
Brenly Shipp (400-meter dash), Scott (800-meter run) and Emma Walker (100-meter hurdles) also picked up second-place finishes in their respective events.
“The hard work these athletes are putting in is beginning to pay dividends,” Lashley said. “We really like where we are at right now training-wise and are excited to see how we perform in a few weeks.”
The Doggers will be in action Friday at Wiseman Field in Torrington taking part in the T-Town Qualifier after Lusk’s Dennis Zowada Invite was canceled for Saturday. Action gets underway at 9 a.m.
