LFL teams second at Morrill

MORRILL, Neb. – The Lingle-Fort Laramie boys’ and girls’ track and field teams finished second at the George Calvert Invite last Friday.

The Lady Doggers finished only two points behind Mitchell (Nebraska) 122-120 in the final team standings, while the Dogger boys also placed second to Mitchell 133-126.

In all, LFL picked up 10 wins on the day, including six from the boys’ team and four from the girls’ team.

The Lady Doggers were led by senior Emma Walker who swept the hurdle events, winning both the 100 and 300 hurdle races.

In the 100 hurdles, LFL took the top three spots with Walker picking up the win in 17.03 seconds, while Jade Kaufman was second in 17.09 seconds. Grace Gibson was third in 18.12 seconds.

The trio also took three of the top four spots in the 300 hurdles. Walker won it in 48.47 seconds, while Kaufman was second in 52.22. Gibson was fourth in 53.39.

Freshman Jordynn Speckner picked up the other individual win of the day in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 46.07 seconds. Selina Berlauer was fifth and Addie Teeters was seventh.

The 4x400 team of Walker, Gibson, Hallie Fuller and Speckner picked up the win 4:33.17.

Speckner also scored a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash, while Skyla Wunder was third in the 200-meter dash.

In the distance events, Hailey Smith was fifth in the mile, while the 4x100 relay team finished fourth and the 4x800 team came home fifth.

In field events, Wunder finished second in long jump at 16 feet 5.25 inches, while Teeters was third in the triple jump at 29-9. Fuller placed third in pole vault, clearing 8 feet, while Izzy Spears placed third in discus at 91-1. Avary Rising led the team in shot put with a toss of 31-2.5.

In the boys’ division, Boyd Oliver, 4x400 relay team, Brady Cook, Myles and Sully Wilson and Brody Roberts picked up wins for the Doggers.

Oliver won discus with a throw of 138-7, while Cook was sixth at 104-6.

In other field events, Wyatt Sylvester was third in pole vault, clearing 11 feet.

The Wilson brothers continue to win the distance events as Sully won the mile in 5:11.66, while Myles won the two-mile in 11:17.79.

In the 800-meter run, Brody Roberts picked up the win over Myles Wilson by a little more than a second. Nolan Spears was fifth. Spears also placed second in the 400-meter dash ahead of Braydon Posten, who finished third.

In the 100 hurdles, LFL took the top three spots with Cook picking up the win in 17.69 seconds, while Cooper Smith was second in 17.72 seconds. Aidan Mattheus was third in 19.22 seconds. Meanwhile in the 300 hurdles, Smith placed fifth just ahead of Cook in sixth. Mattheus was seventh.

The 4x400 team of Roberts, Posten, Skyler Thomas and Cook picked up a win in 3:49.29. In the other relays, the 4x800 team placed fourth and the 4x100 team came home fifth.

The Doggers are scheduled to take part in the T-Town Qualifier on Friday in Torrington. Action begins at 9 a.m. before turning around and heading to Lusk for the Zowada Invite on Saturday.
