LINGLE – For one quarter, the Lingle-Fort Laramie High School football team looked like it was going to give the Pine Bluffs Hornets their first challenge of the season.
The Hornets scored 46 unanswered points, handing to the Doggers a 53-6 loss.
With about four minutes to go in the opening quarter, Pine Bluffs broke the stalemate with a touchdown. However, Lingle answered the Hornet score with a score of its own.
Senior quarterback Brian McCoid completed a 29-yard pass to sophomore receiver Louden Bremer with under a minute to play in the opening quarter. The failed point-after touchdown left the Doggers down 7-6.
From there, it was all Pine Bluffs.
The Hornets didn’t allow another Dogger point for the remainder of the game, while the visitors poured on 46 additional points, handing LFL its second straight loss.
In the third quarter, the Doggers sniffed the red zone twice.
With 9:24 left in the third quarter, Lingle’s drive stalled at the Pine Bluffs’ 34-yard line, and with 3:30 remaining in the quarter, the Doggers made it to the Hornets’ 26-yard line.
In both instances, LFL turned the ball over on downs, and the Hornets took advantage and scored on their ensuing possession.
In all, the Doggers tallied 154 yards of offense, while Pine Bluffs racked up 531 yards – 338 yards on the ground and 193 through the air.
Defensively, Bremer led the team with eight solo tackles, while senior Hadley Fleming had seven. McCoid had two pass breakups and an interception, while sophomore Kaiden Riggs had four assisted stops.
On Friday, the Doggers host Saratoga.
With a win, Lingle will end up as the No. 3 seed. With a loss and a Wright win over Niobrara County, the Doggers will be the No. 4 seed. A Lingle loss and a Niobrara County win over Wright would create a three-way tie for the third, fourth and out seeds with the tie breaker going to score differential.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
