TORRINGTON – Memorial services will be held at a later date for Leroy V. “Sam” Bingham, 81, who died April 17, 2018, at Goshen Healthcare Community. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church or the Lingle Fire Department. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.

Sam was born May 4, 1936, in Henry, Neb., the son of George and Agusta (Kittleman) Bingham. He grew up and received his education in Lingle. He worked in construction and farmed for a while before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served two years and upon his discharge returned to Lingle. He worked at the Sunrise Mine for CF&I until 1980 when the mine shut down. He then owned and operated the Stagecoach Café in Lingle until he sold it in 2000 and retired. 

He married Wilma Lair on April 16, 1978 in Lingle. He moved to Torrington in 2015. Sam enjoyed gambling and fishing.

Sam is survived by a step-son Robert Oates of Torrington; a step-daughter Susan Walker of Pennsylvania; two sisters Edna Dudden of Morrill, Neb., and Beverly Schwartzkopf of Torrington; two brothers Arthur Bingham and Kenneth Bingham both of Torrington; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Wilma; two sisters Sue Carey and Geneva Hughes; and two brothers Clarence and Henry Bingham.
