TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College men’s basketball team saw its upset bid of the No. 12-ranked Casper College Thunderbirds come to an end in the final 10 minutes of Wednesday night’s 80-70 loss.
Coming out of the half, trailing 37-36, Lancer sophomore Brandon Meadows dropped four straight points for his team, giving EWC a 40-37 advantage.
Over the next three minutes EWC pushed the lead to 51-42 courtesy of a trio of thunderous dunks from Lancer freshman forward David Hook.
That proved to be as large of a lead as the Eastern Wyoming saw in the game.
With EWC still holding to a seven-point lead near the midway point in the second half, the Thunderbirds stormed back, going on a 21-2 run over the next six minutes to take a commanding 70-58 lead.
Lancer freshman Jordan Potts slowed the run with a 3-pointer with less than three minutes to play.
EWC went on to connect on three additional 3-pointers in the final minute of play to close the gap to 10 by the final buzzer.
The loss drops the Lancers to 8-12 on the season.
Meadows led the team with 17 points, while Potts added 12 and Sam Tiley tossed in 10.
Eastern Wyoming hosts Western Wyoming College at 4 p.m. Saturday.
