Lancers snap losing streak

TORRINGTON – After enduring 17 losses in a row, the Eastern Wyoming College Lancers snapped the streak to beat Air Force Prep on Friday, 88-84, and Fort Carson on Saturday, 105-100.

EWC 88, Air Force Prep 84
Ahmad Pratt shot 12-of-15 from the field and added five points from the free-throw line to score a game-high 32 points in the 88-84 home win over Air Force Prep. Pratt also had 11 boards, two blocks and a steal on Friday.
Jordan Mirich, Petar Skoknic and Walker Korell joined Pratt with double-digit points. Mirich recorded 23 points on 50 percent shooting from the field. He added eight points from the charity stripe, four rebounds, a team-high four assists, a block and a team-high three steals.
Skoknic chipped in 14 points for EWC. He also accounted for four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Korell hit 5-of-7 from the field, including a trio of three-pointers. He had three rebounds, an assist and a block.

The Lancers trailed at the break against Air Force Prep, 44-41. The Huskies came out hot in the second half, growing their lead to 57-44, but EWC battled back to outscore Air Force Prep 47-40 in the second half.
As a team, the Lancers shot 45 percent from the field, but less than 30 percent from behind the arc. EWC shot 75 percent from the charity stripe, where they took 32 shots. The home team was outrebounded 47-36.

EWC 105, Fort Carson 100
The Lancers got out to a hot start against the Gorillas, posting seven unanswered points in the opening minutes of the game. The biggest lead of the game was a 29-16 advantage that EWC had in the first half. The Lancers had a double-digit lead for a majority of the first half, but they let that slip to three points at the intermission, 49-46.
Fort Carson jumped out to a lead in the first five minutes of the second half and they held a marginal lead until the closing minutes. Korell scored eight, back-to-back, to give the Lancers an 88-87 lead with 3:57 remaining in regulation. With less than a minute to go, the Lancers held a 102-97 lead, managing to hold the margin for the five-point win.
Korell was the leading scorer for EWC, with 30 points. He knocked down 8-of-15 and added 10 points from the charity stripe. Korell also had six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
Pratt followed up his 32-point game with 20 points on Saturday. He also had a team-high nine rebounds and accounted for two assists and a steal. Mirich recorded 19 points and Skoknic contributed 14 in the home win over Fort Carson. The two combined for five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. Trey Schroefel led the Lancers with five of the team’s nine steals.
EWC racked up 48 points from behind the arc, hitting the 39 percent mark. The Lancers shot 45 percent from the field and 83 percent from the line. For the second time in two days, the Lancers were outrebounded. The Gorillas came down with 44 boards, while EWC had 39.
The Lancers look to continue their hot streak against Otero Junior College on the road on Friday.
