Lancers continue skid

TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancers could not make up for the deficit they build in the first half, falling to Trinidad State Junior College on the road Friday, 94-77.

After taking a 7-5 lead, the Lancers hit a slump, allowing the Trojans to rush out to a 20-8 lead with 12:09 left in the first. On back-to-back threes, Trinidad State built a 37-17 lead with 5:06 remaining in the half. By the break, the home team was up 46-23.

Half way through the second half, the Trojans held a 70-45 lead. EWC slowly chipped away at the lead, but the gap was too large. A late three by Ty Larson brought the score to 94-77.

Walker Korell had a solid game, racking up 22 points to pace EWC, including 12 from behind the arc. He also had five rebounds and an assist.

Brandon Meadows was the final Lancer in double-figures, pouring in 10 points and seven rebounds. Rounding out the starters, Jonathan Morrobel and Alek Cosic had five points apiece and combined for 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Trey Schroefel recorded two assists.

Off the bench, Daniel Wright notched seven points and two rebounds. Rhythm Ajanku, Jordan Mirich and Larson each accounted for six points, while combining for two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Nick Holmes had four points, three rebounds and two steals. Mark Vandeventer, Chad Hinrichs and Bruno Oliveira had two points apiece, combining for six rebounds and a block.

The loss drops the Lancers to 1-23 on the year. Their next competitive action comes at home this weekend when they host Otero Junior College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Lamar Community College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
