RIVERTON – The Eastern Wyoming College men’s basketball team outshot Central Wyoming College but still came up on the short end of the scoreboard.
The Lancers shot 42.4%, knocking down 28 field goals, while holding the Central Wyoming Rustlers to only 19 field goals and 38.8% shooting in a 79-77 loss.
EWC and CWC were tied at 37 apiece at halftime, and the Rustlers outscored EWC 42-40 in the second half.
Sophomore Carter Berish gave EWC a 58-55 lead with 11:25 remaining in the game off an old-fashioned 3-point play, but on the ensuing possession, Central Wyoming converted an old-fashioned 3-point play of its own.
With 10:21 remaining in the game, the Rustlers took the lead and never trailed again.
Central Wyoming pushed its lead to as many as seven, but with under five minutes to play in the game, EWC closed the gap to 72-70.
The Lancers never got any closer than a one-point deficit.
Freshman Terrance Jones led the Lancers with 19 points, while freshman Kayden Toldson added 14. Berish had 12, while freshman Herman Melashych tossed in 11.
The loss drops EWC to 12-7 overall on the season.
The Lancers wrap up the road portion of the schedule on Wednesday in Powell at Northwest College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
