TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer rodeo team is slated to host the Lancer rodeo this weekend at the Goshen County Fairgrounds, with two rounds of slack and three performances over the weekend.
Action kicks off with a round of slack at 1 p.m. today (Friday), filled mostly with timed events. The round usually wraps up around 3-4 p.m. Friday night at 7 p.m. is the first performance of the weekend, with every rodeo
event represented.
The second round of action kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m. with another slack round, followed by another 7 p.m. performance Saturday night.
Sunday is the short round, with the best competitors from the weekend vying for the top spot. The short round kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Pavilion at the Goshen County Fairgrounds.
The Lancers have several athletes who could contend for top spots. Goat tying is a strength for the Lady Lancers this year, with Karissa Rayhill sitting atop the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings. Jacey Thompson is fourth in the same rankings, while teammate Libby Winchell is 12th. On the boys side, EWC has three headers and three heelers that are all ranked in the top-15 in the regional standings. In rough stock, Wyatt Schuelke is 10th in the saddle bronc riding standings.
Admission for the slack rounds is free. For the performances, including the short go on Sunday, an adult ticket costs $7, while a ticket for K-12 is $4. Programs and day sheets will be available at the gates.
In addition to the rodeo throughout the weekend, EWC teamed up with KGOS/KERM to put on a second-annual trade show. The trade show opens at 1 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, with it closing at the beginning of the performance each night at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the trade show is open from 10-2 p.m.
