Lancer men drop games to North Platte, McCook

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – The Eastern Wyoming College men’s basketball team dropped a weekend doubleheader to North Platte Community College and McCook Community College.

On Friday, the Lancers’ second-half rally came up short in an 84-77 loss.

Eastern Wyoming dug itself into a hole in the first half, falling behind 42-29.

North Platte’s lead reached as many as 21 before the Lancers began their rally.

EWC cut the Knight lead to as few as one in the closing minute, but North Platte capped off the game by going 5-of-7 from the free throw line to hang one for the victory.

Freshman Atte Vuoristo led the team with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Sophomores Ryan Swan and Marko Krtinic added 11 points each. Krtinic also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and dished out six assists.

The next day, EWC came up short again, 77-74 to the McCook Indians.

It was close throughout. The teams swapped the lead 13 times and were tied on 10 occasions. McCook led 39-36 at half and led 75-73 with 16.7 seconds left in the game.

With the Lancers showing a full-court press, the Indians were able to break it and the end result was a dunk, securing the victory for the home team.

Freshman John Barbee led the team with 16 points, while sophomores Gad Tshishimbi Biseba and Seal Osajivbe added 12 points and eight rebounds apiece.

The Lancer men head to Sterling, Colorado for a pair of games this weekend. They play Lamar (Colorado) Community College at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 and Northeastern Junior College at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 to wrap up the pre-Christmas schedule.
