McCOOK, Neb. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team recently returned from the spring tournament hosted by McCook Community College where the Lancers won the tournament with a score of 625, 32 strokes better than the second place team, Otero Community College.
“I was proud of these guys as they put in a full team effort for the win,” said coach Zach Smith. “They each played well with three of them placing in the top ten which earns them all-region points. This is a difficult course both mentally and physically. I think my sophomores are pretty happy that they will not have to play this course again but they certainly conquered it well.”
Leading the Lancers was freshman Harry Walch, who won the two-day tournament with a score of 150. Other scores for the Lancers were as follows: Arvy Shongwe, freshman – 158, fourth; Denton Shaw, sophomore – 159, tied fifth; Jared Pilkington, freshman – 164, 11th; Adrian Torres-Ruiz, sophomore – 165, 12th.
The Lancers wrapped up action on Thursday in Sterling, Colo. after the press deadline.
