Lancer golf concludes season

RIVERTON – The Eastern Wyoming College golf team just concluded their season at the final tournament held in Riverton.  
Due to the weather, the tournament was a one-day, 18 hole round, winning with a score of 314.  McCook finished second with a score of 329.
Two Lancers split the win with a score of 75 – sophomore Denton Shaw, Lusk, and Harry Walch, Staines, England.  Other scores for the Lancers were as follows: Adrian Torres-Ruiz, sophomore, Madrid, Spain – 80, sixth; Jared Pilkington, freshman, Scottsbluff, Neb. – 81, tied for seventh; Arvy Shongwe, freshman, Ezulwini, Swaziland – 83, tied for ninth; Eric Lovell, sophomore, Greeley, Colo. – 85, tied for 12th.

In the Region IX individual golf standings for the year, Walch finished in first place, Shongwe in fourth, Torres-Ruiz in fifth and Shaw in seventh. Walch and Shongwe were 1st Team All Region IX while Torres-Ruiz were 2nd Team All Region IX.
The Lancers won the Region IX standings and are preparing for nationals, which will be held at the Buffalo Dunes golf course in Garden City, Kan.
Walch also won first in the district.  The district includes the community colleges in Region IX and the community colleges in Arizona.
“This is the first time in Lancer Golf history that we have had a player win the District title,” coach Zach Smith said.  “Harry worked hard all season and it really paid off.  I’m excited to see how all of these students perform at nationals. They are a talented group and I have really enjoyed them.”
Nationals will be held May 16-19.
