Lady Lancers winless to begin season

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – The Eastern Wyoming College women’s basketball team opened the season with a pair of road losses over the weekend, falling to McCook (Nebraska) Community College and to North Platte (Nebraska) Community College.

On Friday, McCook outscored the Lady Lancers 24-7 in the fourth quarter to move past EWC, 63-56.

Prior to the final 10 minutes of the game, Eastern Wyoming led by double-digits at 49-39.

Freshman Anna Soler led the team with 18 points, while sophomore Janette Hanni added 15 points. Freshmen Angela Lucio and Rosa Revueltas added seven apiece off the bench for the Lady Lancers.

The next day, the Lady Lancers fell to North Platte, 70-57.

EWC led 19-13 after one quarter, but the Lady Knights outscored the Lady Lancers 24-10 in the second quarter and never trailed for the remainder of the game.

Freshman Venesa Marinova led the team with 18 points, while Revueltas added 12. Hanni tossed in 10.

The Lady Lancers shot only 30.8% (20-of-56) in the loss.

EWC (0-2) travel to the Bruin Classic hosted by Salt Lake Community College. The Lady Lancers will face SLCC at 5 p.m. Friday and Snow College at 11 a.m. Saturday.
