CHEYENNE – The Eastern Wyoming College volleyball team grabbed early leads in each of the first two sets but, ultimately, fell to Laramie County Community College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-9).

The Lady Lancers held a slim 3-2 lead in the opening set courtesy of an early kill from EWC sophomore Lissette Lefforge and multiple LCCC errors.

EWC kept things close until the Golden Eagles 5-2 spurt, pushing LCCC’s lead to 11-6.

Following a timeout, the Lady Lancer didn’t allow the Laramie County to extend its lead any further until another 5-1 run took the home team’s lead to 19-11, forcing Eastern Wyoming to call its second timeout of the set.

LCCC went on to score six of the final 10 points to pull away for the set win.

In the second set, a Golden Eagle attack error gave the Lady Lancers an early 1-0 lead.

It was an advantage the visitors held for much of the set.

With the set tied at 11, Lady Lancer sophomore Katie Stroschein put her team back in front, but it proved short-lived.

LCCC went on a 9-1 run to go up 20-13.

Late in the set, Eastern Wyoming got an ace from freshman Alexis Triowbridge and another kill from Lefforge, but the Golden Eagles held on for the set win.

In the third set, it was all Laramie County.

They jumped out to a 6-1 lead and cruised to a 16-point set win to secure the sweep, ending on back-to-back serving aces.

Lefforge led EWC with 10 kills, while Shaniah Freesman added six. Trowbridge tallied two aces while dishing out 10 assists.

Defensively, Trowbridge had led the team with six digs.

The Lady Lancers (3-24 overall and 1-8 in Region IX North) travel to Casper College (9-17 and 3-5) for a 3 p.m. match Saturday.
