CASPER – Three Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers are still vying for the top spot in the country at the College National Finals Rodeo, with the third round of action still being completed.

Libby Winchell has completed all three rounds in Casper. She tied for 11th in the first round with a time of 6.8 seconds, followed by a time of 8.3 seconds in the second round, which put her 38th. Winchell’s time of 12.1 seconds in the third round put her with 27.2 seconds on three head.

Karissa Rayhill has had the best round by a Lady Lancer so far this week, taking second in the first round with a time of 6.3 seconds, 0.1 seconds behind the first-place finish. In the second round, she posted a time of 9.0 seconds, finishing 43rd.

Rayhill is also trying her talents in barrel racing. Her first-round time of 15.45 seconds earned her 38th, but she rebounded in the second go, dropping her time to 14.93 seconds to tie for 23rd.

The final competitor for EWC was Jacey Thompson. In the first round, she finished in 11.0 seconds to slide to 43rd. Thompson cleaned up her run for the second go, turning in a time of 7.9 seconds, finishing 36th.

Jay Em native Kaylee Smith is also vying for a goat tying national title as a member of the Panhandle State University rodeo team. She recorded times of 7.3 seconds and 8.4 seconds in the first two rounds.

The third round wraps up with performances through Friday. The championship round is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Casper Events Center.
