The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers squeaked out the 63-62 win over Otero Junior College tonight to advance to the next round of the Region IX Tournament.

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers held on to a slim margin late against Otero Junior College tonight, securing the 63-62 win to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

EWC was behind Otero 9-7, but the Lady Lancers took a 13-12 lead after the first quarter. By halftime, EWC was behind 31-26. The Lady Lancers came out hot, tying the score at 35, with six minutes left in the third frame. With a quarter to go, the two teams were tied at 46.

A bucket by Abril Rexach late in the game gave EWC a 61-58 lead, but a layup for the Lady Rattlers cut the score to 61-60 with 19.1 seconds left. The Lady Lancers were up 63-60 with 5.5 seconds left, but a foul with 0.6 seconds left sent Otero to the line, where it hit both free throws just before time ran out, giving EWC the 63-62 win.

With the win, EWC moves on to the bracket for the women's Region IX Tournament. The Lady Lancers advanced to the quarterfinals, where they face the winner between Miles Community College and Central Wyoming College. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. Thursday in Casper.
