TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers dominated for two wins at home over the weekend.
They beat North Platte Community College Friday, 88-57, and McCook Community College Saturday, 89-64.
“I think the big key is we got out to a quick start in both games,” coach Tom Anderson said. “I think we just came out ready to play in both games.”

EWC 88, NPCC 57
The Lady Lancers stormed the court with 22 points in the first quarter, allowing North Platte just nine. EWC was outscored in the second quarter, 21-18, but still took a 40-30 lead into the break. In the second half, the home team put up 27 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth, while allowing North Platte just 27 in both in both frames to cruise to the win.
Anna Perez Gomez was the leading scorer for EWC, with 20 points. She shot 6-of-12 from the field, including two made three-pointers. Gomez rounded out her stat line with five rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Emily Evans, with 18 points, Sarah Bersang, with 16, and Sophie Claycomb, with 10, rounded out the top scorers for the Lady Lancers. The three combined to nail seven three-pointers and rack up 13 boards, four assists and three steals. Pamela Bethel led the team in boards, with 13. She also had five points and all of EWC’s four blocks.
In the win, the Lady Lancers shot better from behind the arc then they did from the floor. EWC nailed 41 percent of their shots from the field and 44 percent from three-point land. The Lady Lancers were sent to the charity stripe 27 times, draining 17 free throws. EWC limited North Platte to 36 percent shooting and did not allow a single three-pointer.
“I thought we played pretty well defensively and one thing we did really well in both games was out perimeter defense,” Anderson said.

EWC 89, McCook 64
EWC again took a big first-quarter lead, outscoring McCook, 27-12. By halftime, the Lady Lancers were up 48-29. They were outscored in the third quarter, 23-20, but bounced back to put up 21 in the fourth, while allowing only 12, to cruise to the win.
All five starters for EWC were in double-figures. Bersang recorded a double-double, with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She added three assists and a steal on Saturday. Bethel also had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 boards. For the second game in a row, Bethel had all three EWC’s blocks.
Gomez (18), Carna Prokic (16) and Evans (14) were the other three starters against McCook. The three combined for 16 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
“I think that’s something you always strive for. The balanced scoring is always great,” Anderson said. “I think that’s on of our strengths.”
After the hot shooting night Friday, the Lady Lancers upped their shooting percentage on Friday. EWC converted 41 percent from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc. The team also increased its free throw percentage to 81 percent on Saturday.
The two wins put the Lady Lancers at 17-10 this season, with a 9-5 conference record. They have only three games remaining in the regular season. EWC returns to the hardwood on the road this weekend. The Lady Lancers play Northeastern Junior College Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Lamar Community College Saturday at 2 p.m.
“Every game is important. We have played very well on the road most of the season,” Anderson said. “We seem to be playing with a sense of purpose. We just need to focus on one game and when it’s over, we will move on to the next.”
