TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College women’s basketball team dropped its two final home games of the season to Laramie County Community College and to Casper College on Saturday and Monday, respectively.

On Saturday, the Lady Lancers fell to LCCC, 74-53.

The Golden Eagles outscored EWC in each quarter to pull away for the win.

Ines Gnahore led the Lady Lancers with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Tatyanna Yarrell added seven points and six rebounds. Sophomore Venesa Marinova also tossed in seven points.

Torrington High School alum Mattie Jones scored her only point of the game from the free throw line for LCCC. She also grabbed three rebounds.

On Saturday, the No. 15-ranked Casper College Lady Thunderbirds came to Torrington and handed the Lady Lancers a season-ending 83-62 loss.

EWC raced out to an 8-2 lead courtesy of scores from Gnahore, Andrea Gutierrez Ciordia and Tamar Kopilvich.

Three minutes into the game, the Eastern Wyoming’s lead reached its largest at 11-5 following a 3-pointer by Marinova.

However, over the next two and a half minutes, Casper went on a 13-2 run to take its first lead of the game at 18-15.

It proved to be the only lead change of the game.

By the end of the first quarter, the Lady T-Birds led 21-17, and in the second quarter, EWC was held to only nine points as Casper took a 45-26 lead into halftime.

By early in the fourth quarter, the visitors pushed their lead to 71-42 – their largest of the game.

Over the final 6:42 of the game, the Lady Lancers outscored Casper 20-12 to chip away at the deficit.

In the end, it was enough in the 21-point loss.

Gnahore led the Lady Lancers with 16 points, while Kopilvich and Ciordia added 12 each.

The Lady Lancers end the regular season 5-22. They now turn their attention to the Region IX Tournament. Location and opponent of their first-round opponent has yet to be determined.
