TORRINGTON – With the end of the volleyball season, Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers Helena Khouri and Lissette Lefforge earned recognition for their efforts this season.

Khouri, EWC’s libero, was named to the all-region team, which is the region’s 15-best players. She was also named second-team all-conference by the Wyoming Community College Athletic Association.

For her efforts this season, Khouri was one of five All-American nominees from the region. To become a nominee, a player must be on the all-region team and then the coaches vote on who is worthy and could stack up against players from across the country. Khouri finished third in the voting, with the top-five going on as All-American nominees.

Throughout her career at EWC, Khouri had racked up 982 digs, 180 kills and 86 aces. In her freshmen year, the Rio de Janeiro native played outside hitter for the Lady Lancers based on the needs of the team, piling up 162 kills, 15 aces and 387 digs.

This past season, Khouri was moved to her normal position of libero, where she was a force in the back line, accounting for 4.69 digs per set, with 595 on the year, along with 71 aces and 18 kills this season.

Khouri was also named to the All-Region IX Tournament team after the Region IX Tournament in Sheridan on Nov. 1-4. She stepped up her game at the tournament, racking up 76 digs over three games, along with seven aces.

Lefforge joined Khouri on the All-Region IX Tournament team after her efforts in Sheridan. At the regional tournament, Lefforge was consistent, turning in 10 kills in each of the Lady Lancers’ three games. She rounded out her tournament stat sheet with an ace, six digs and four blocks. On the season, the freshman from Otis, Colo. turned in 286 kills (2.33 kills/set), seven aces, 117 digs and 21 blocks.

As a team, EWC won the team sportsmanship award while in Sheridan at the regional tournament.
