TORRINGTON – Despite 27 points from Pamela Bethel, one of only two returners on this year’s team, the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers lost to Casper College on Wednesday, 83-66.
Casper came out hot, taking a 20-8 lead over the Lady Lancers with four minutes to go in the first quarter by dropping several three-pointers. Bethel had six of the first eight points for EWC. At the end of the first frame, the Lady Tbirds led 30-19. Bethel dropped another bucket with 5:24 to go in the second quarter, followed by a Casper timeout with the score at 37-27. At intermission, EWC was behind 44-35.
The visitors outscored the Lady Lancers 18-11 to grab a 62-46 lead after the third frame. Casper went on to snag the win 83-66.
Bethel finished the night with 27 points, nine rebounds and several blocks. Seven of her points came from the charity stripe, with another six from behind the arc.
Cathlyn Knutson was the second-leading scorer for EWC, pouring in 15 points, all from behind the arc. Nicole Cutler, Inés Salat Margarit and Lauren O’Connell all chipped in six points each. Abril Rxeach Roure and Macie Mackey chipped in three points apiece.
The loss against Casper was in EWC’s first game of the season, putting them at 0-1. The Lady Lancers return to action at the Western Wyoming College Tournament this weekend. Their first game is against Salt Lake Community College on Friday at 11 p.m., followed by a matchup with Northwest College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
