Lady Lancers 0-3 at Eastern Arizona Classic

THATCHER, Ariz. – The Eastern Wyoming College women’s basketball team is still searching for its first win of the season after a winless trip to the Gila Monsters Tournament Classic over the weekend.

The Lady Lancers opened the weekend against Pima Community College in an 83-70 loss on Thursday evening.

EWC led 21-17 after one quarter and led 39-38 at halftime. The Lady Lancers added to their lead going into the third quarter, but Pima, the No. 16-ranked NJCAA Division II team, outscored Eastern Wyoming 30-15 over the final 10 minutes to pull away for the 13-point victory.

No individual stats were available at press time.

On Friday, the Lady Lancers fell 82-57 to Cochise College.

EWC led 24-22 after one quarter but trailed 41-36 at half.

In the third quarter, Cochise outscored the Lady Lancers 27-7 to pull away before playing to a 14-14 draw over the final 10 minutes of the game.

No individual stats were available at press time.

In the final game of the weekend, the Lady Lancers fell to Eastern Arizona College 86-55.

EWC trailed 25-19 after a quarter and 44-29 at halftime.

EAC pushed the lead to 60-45 heading to the fourth quarter before Eastern Arizona outscored the Lady Lancers 26-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Freshman Amanda Sene da Cruz led EWC with 16 points, while freshman Ines Gnahore added 14. Freshman Vanessa Marinova added eight points off the bench.

The Lady Lancers (0-5) return home on Saturday to host Otero Junior College (5-1). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
