Lady Doggers record first wins

LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers picked up their first two wins of the season at the L-FL Invite this past weekend, beating Hulett and Midwest, before ending the weekend with a loss against top-ranked Encampment.

L-FL 57, Hulett 49

Savannah Mirich topped the scoring sheet with 13 points. She was one of three Lady Doggers in double-figures. Mirich also had nine rebounds and an assist in L-FL’s first win of the season.

Kelcie Sargent joined Mirich at the top of the stat sheet with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She finished the game with four rebounds, an assist and tied for the team lead with four steals.

Shelby Heilbrun turned in a solid game, finishing with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 5-of-11 from the floor and had six of her rebounds off the offensive glass. Along with 10 points and 10 boards, Heilbrun racked up three assists and three steals.

Ashley Riley and Jessy White kicked in nine and eight points, respectively. They combined to shoot 8-of-12 from the field and each had two boards, while Riley also tallied three assists and three steals.

Jade Cooper racked up five points, three of which came on L-FL’s only three-pointer in the win. Along with her five points, the senior racked up nine boards and had team-highs in both assists, with eight, and steals, with four.

L-FL shot 32 percent from the field, but only 15 percent from behind the arc.

L-FL 46, Midwest 9

L-FL started off stellar in the first quarter, scoring 21 points in the first frame compared to one point from the Lady Oilers. By halftime, the Lady Doggers held a 32-3 lead. They blanked Midwest in the third frame, 11-0, before being outscored 6-3 in the fourth, while still cruising to the 46-9 victory.

Mirich topped the stat sheet in scoring, pouring in 18 points on nine made buckets, which she paired with three offensive rebounds. Cooper was second in scoring with nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. The senior packed her stat line with seven boards, two assists and three steals.

Riley chipped in six points, four rebounds and an assist in the win. Heilbrun led the way on the boards, tallying nine rebounds, all of which came on the offensive glass, which she paired with four points and two assists.

Sargent and White combined for four points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals, while Bever and Kaylie Rafferty chipped in seven rebounds and an assist.

The Lady Doggers shot 54 percent from the floor, including 59 percent from inside the arc.

Encampment 55,

L-FL 13

The Lady Doggers found themselves down 12-6 after the first frame against the top-ranked Lady Tigers. Encampment put up another 12 points in the second quarter, while limiting L-FL to two points, taking a 24-8 lead into the break. The Lady Doggers were held to just one point in the third quarter and four in the fourth, while the visitors piled on 13 points in the third quarter and another 18 points in the fourth to cruise to the 55-13 win.

The Lady Doggers now sit at 2-4 on the young season. L-FL returns to their home floor to host Crawford, Neb. on Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Doggers also host Guernsey-Sunrise on Jan. 6 with a tip slated for 2:30 p.m.
