LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers put up 30 points in the second half in a comeback effort, but fell short to Morrill, Neb. on Tuesday, 47-43.
The Lady Doggers got off to a slow start, with only eight points in the first quarter and five in the second. At halftime, LFL was down 22-13.
“It’s tough to secure a lead when you have 17 turnovers in a half,” coach Matt Cornelius said. “Our defense was exemplary but our offense wasn’t.”
After intermission, the Lady Doggers poured in 16 points in the third quarter and 14 points in the fourth, while allowing eight in the third and 17 in the fourth. With 4:30 remaining, LFL was down by only two points, but it could not complete the comeback.

“(Morrill is) a good little team and they run deep,” Cornelius said. “We just couldn’t catch up to them.”
Kaylynn Jefferson led the Lady Doggers in points, with 13. She nailed 4-of-11 from behind the arc and also had five rebounds, a steal and a block.
Makenna Greenwald, with nine points, and Georgia Wollert, with eight, rounded out the top-scorers for LFL. Greenwald led the team in rebounds, with seven, and she also had two steals. Wollert racked up five boards of her own, to go along with two assists and a team-high six steals. Morea Shipley led LFL in assists, with four.
“Kaylynn Jefferson is playing exceptional lately and Georgia Wollert’s defense is tip-top,” Cornelius said.
The loss puts LFL at 7-7 this season. The Lady Doggers played Southeast on Thursday after press deadline. Their next action comes on the road against Lusk at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
“We are getting better and hopefully we can just add some wins into the win column,” Cornelius said.
