LUSK – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers won their first three games Saturday at the Lusk Invitational, before losing their final game against the host Lady Tigers.
Upton was the first opponent for the Lady Doggers. Each game during the tournament was best two out of three sets, and L-FL bested Upton in two sets, winning each set by a score of 25-22.
The Lady Doggers amassed eight aces in the two-set win, with Jordyn Gaspers, Kalli Nichol, Paige Forkner and Jade Cooper each recording two. Cooper also played a big role at the net, accounting for six kills, which was second on the team. She filled out her stat line with team-highs in assists (15) and digs (11). Nichol and Forkner also combined for five kills and six digs.
Amanda Riley paced the Lady Doggers in kills, with eight, while contributing 10 digs and a team-high two blocks.
Riley continued her high killing totals in L-FL’s second game of the day, which was a two-set win over Hulett (25-19, 25-20), with another eight kills, paired with two digs. Gaspers and Jordan Hunt tied for second in the killing department, racking up five apiece. They were also second and third in digs, with Hunt having eight and Gaspers kicking in six. Cooper had the team’s only two aces to go along with 17 assists and six digs.
Moorcroft was the Lady Doggers’ third opponent of the day. L-FL won the first set, 25-15, but fell in the second set by the same score. In the third set, the Lady Doggers poured it on, winning the set and match 15-6.
Hunt had a huge game at the service line, recording four aces and going a perfect 18-for-18 in good serves. She also added two kills and led the way in digs, with 12. Riley also had double-digit digs, with 10, while contributing seven kills, a stuff block and the team’s other two aces. Cooper and Forkner combined for five kills, five digs, a block and all 18 of L-FL’s assists.
Despite three aces apiece from Riley and Jessy White, the Lady Doggers fell in three sets against Lusk. L-FL won the first set, 25-23, before losing the next two, 25-16 and 15-7.
On top of her three aces, Riley was in double-digits in kills, with a team-high 11. She also accounted for eight digs. Gaspers also added eight digs, along with five kills. Hunt and Forkner each had five digs and combined for three kills.
Lusk 3, L-FL 1
A day before the invitational in Lusk (Friday), L-FL hit the road for a regular season game against the Lady Tigers. Lusk defended their home floor against the Lady Doggers in three sets. L-FL fell in the first, 25-22, before rallying to win the second, 25-18. Lusk picked up the final two sets, 25-16 and 25-19.
In the loss, Riley put together a solid stat line, including double-digits in both kills (13) and digs (19) to go along with two aces and a block. Hunt, who led the team with four of L-FL’s 12 aces, was second in kills, with six, while Forkner chipped in four. Cooper and Gaspers both accounted for eight digs to tie for second for the Lady Doggers, with another seven coming from Forkner and six from Sierra Spears.
The Lady Doggers now sit at 9-4 on the season. Their next action comes at home on back to back days, playing Pine Bluffs on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Glenrock on Friday at 5 p.m.
