LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers improved in each set Friday during Homecoming against Glenrock, but failed to pick up a set win, suffering a home loss.

In the first set, L-FL fell behind and were unable to catch up, falling 25-13. The Lady Doggers shrunk their deficit by one in the second set, losing 25-14, before dropping the third set, 25-20.

“We played well at times, but unfortunately we couldn’t maintain the tough play for more than a few points,” coach Barb Clark said.

Amanda Riley had a big game at the net, recording 13 kills and a block. She also had five digs. Jordyn Gaspers was second on the team in kills, with four. She tied for second with Sierra Spears in digs, with eight. Jordan Hunt paced the Lady Doggers in digs, with nine.

Paige Forkner and Jade Cooper combined for three kills and 11 digs. Cooper recorded all 18 set assists for L-FL.

“Jade does a great job getting to bad passes and having some really great sets, but she shouldn’t have to do that the whole match,” Clark said.

Pine Bluffs 3, L-FL 0

The Lady Doggers struggled right out of the gates against the Lady Hornets, falling behind 6-1 in the first set. L-FL battled back to score six of the next seven points to tie things up at seven. The Lady Doggers took a lead at 10-9 and continued to stave off Pine Bluffs. They held a four-point lead three times in the set. After a Pine Bluffs timeout with L-FL leading 23-19, the Lady Hornets scored four in a row to tie it up at 23.

With the score tied at 23, the two teams traded points, with the set tying again at 24, 25 and 26. The Lady Hornets rattled off two-straight with the score at 26 to pick up the win, 28-26.

In the second set, the visitors stormed out to an 11-5 lead and the Lady Doggers failed to recover. They brought the set to within two twice (11-9 and 14-12), but could never get it any closer. Pine Bluffs ballooned their lead to 10 at 23-13 and cruised to the win, 25-16.

The third set was a must-win for L-FL. The home team scored five in a row to take a 6-5 lead, but it was their only advantage during the entire set. Pine Bluffs 10-straight to give the Lady Doggers a 15-6 deficit. L-FL did trim that lead substantially, but went on to lose 25-21.

Riley again had a big game, recording nine kills, 10 digs and three blocks. As a team, L-FL amassed 12 blocks, with Hunt leading the way with four. Spears and Forkner also added two apiece.

Cooper was just behind Riley in kills, with eight, while accounting for 11 assists and 13 digs. Hunt was second on the team in digs, with 11. Nine different Lady Doggers took the court against the Lady Hornets.

“To give credit where credit is due, both Pine Bluffs and Glenrock did a nice job of running their offenses and putting us on the defense. We played out of system much of both matches,” Clark said. “However, I saw some good things from all of the girls. I had to make some subs and felt those girls handled the pressure very well.”

The Lady Doggers now sit at 9-5 and return to action on the road Friday against Burns, with the varsity game slated for 5 p.m. They also are scheduled to compete in the Morrill, Neb. Invite on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
