LINGLE – Lingle-Fort Laramie volleyball battled back from a six-point deficit in the fourth set to force a deciding fifth set, only to fall 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 25-15, 26-28, 15-12) to the Class 2A Glenrock Lady Herders on Friday night for Homecoming.

In the opening set, Glenrock raced out to a 16-2 lead.

The Lady Doggers chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to as few as seven at 23-16 following an ace serve by sophomore Baylee Skinner.

In the second set, L-FL evened the match score at one despite the Lady Herders grabbing an early 6-3 lead.

Once again, the Lady Doggers battled back, and sophomore Kamryn Rafferty’s kill gave Lingle an 8-7 advantage. Lingle never trailed for the remainder of the set.

In the third set, it was all Glenrock to regain the match lead.

In the fourth set, the Lady Herders held on to a 22-16 lead, but coming out of an L-FL timeout, errors started to mount for the visitors.

A lifted ball, an attack error in the net, a serve which sailed long forced Glenrock to call a timeout of its own, but junior Tiah Meyer’s kill tied the set at 23.

Lone Lady Dogger senior Kaylie Rafferty broke the tie, but the teams traded scores, until another of Glenrock attacks landed wide, handing L-FL the set win and forcing a deciding fifth set.

Lingle scored first in the fifth, but Glenrock took a 7-3 advantage before the Lady Doggers made one last run.

Junior M’Lynn Hill broke an 11-all stalemate with a kill, but Glenrock scored the next four points to close out the set and match.

Hill led the Lady Doggers with nine kills, while Meyer had seven. Kaylie Rafferty tallied four, and Skinner and Kamryn Rafferty had three each.

Meyer, Kamryn Rafferty and freshman Natalie Speckner had two blocks apiece, while Skinner received 18 digs and dished out 25 assists.

The Lady Doggers (3-6) travel to Lusk to face the Niobrara County Lady Tigers (1-7) at 5 p.m. Friday.
