Lady Cyclones win on Senior Night

YODER – The Southeast Lady Cyclones got off to a slow start Saturday for Senior Night against Glenrock, but came on strong late in the game to secure a win in the final regular season game, 37-23.

Glenrock came out and put up six points in the first quarter, while limiting the Lady Cyclones to four in the frame. By halftime, the score was knotted at 12. The third quarter proved to be the difference for Southeast, with the Lady Cyclones outscoring the Lady Herders 12-2 in the frame to take a 24-14 lead heading into the final quarter. Southeast added another 13 points in the fourth, with Glenrock upping their total by nine points to give the home team the 14-point win.

Ellie Schmitt topped the scoring sheet with 13 points, followed closely by Hailey Anderson, who turned in nine points. Anderson, Schmitt and Kaci Schmick all had five rebounds, with three of Schmitt’s boards coming on offense.

Senior Whitney Foos accounted for four assists to lead the Lady Cyclones, while Macie Murphy contributed three steals to top the stat sheet.

Pine Bluffs 39, Southeast 37

The Lady Cyclones hung tough with the fifth-ranked Lady Hornets in Yoder on Friday, with a buzzer-beater being the difference.

Southeast came out hot to open the game, taking a 13-9 lead after the first quarter. Both teams’ offenses slowed in the second half, with the Lady Hornets outscoring the home team 6-3 in the frame, cutting the Southeast lead to 16-15 at the break.

Pine Bluffs rallied after halftime to pour in 17 points, while holding Southeast to 12 and the visitors were up 32-28 with eight minutes to go. The Lady Cyclones chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter and had the game tied at 37 with eight seconds to go. A steal and a bucket at the horn by the Lady Hornets gave Pine Bluffs the narrow win.

Schmitt again topped the scoring sheet with 20 points, finishing the night with a double-double with 11 rebounds. Anderson was second in scoring with eight points and led the team with four steals. Morgan Ekwall was second on the team on the glass, recording four rebounds.

Southeast finished the regular season with an 11-10 record, posting a 4-4 mark against conference opponents. The Lady Cyclones ranked third in the conference, with the regional tournament this weekend. Southeast kicks things off Thursday for the 2A East Regional Tournament with a game against Wright at 9 a.m. at Eastern Wyoming College.
