Lady Cyclones sweep Wright, Glenrock

YODER –The Southeast High School volleyball team swept the weekend’s doubleheader with victories over Wright on Friday and Glenrock on Saturday.

During Friday’s 25-16, 25-20, 25-21 win over the Wright Panthers, the Lady Cyclones used a run in each set to overcome deficits to complete the sweep.

In the first set, Wright led 10-8 before sophomore Brenna Herring’s kill sparked a 12-1 run.

Junior Jordan Stoddard’s kill capped off the run, giving the Lady Cyclones a 20-11 lead.

In the second, it was much the same.

Wright led 14-12, and this time, it was sophomore Shelby Ekwall’s kill which started the rally.

It was the first of eight straight points for Southeast.

In the final set, the Lady Panthers jumped out to a 13-7 lead. Wright’s lead remained at six until Southeast used its second timeout, trailing 17-11.

It was again Ekwall who sparked the rally.

This time it was an 11-3 spurt which put the Lady Cyclones up for good to complete the sweep.

Sophomore Sydney Anderson led the team with seven kills, while junior Jordan Stoddard added five. Sophomore Kealy Carson and Ekwall had four apiece. Herring served four aces, tallied five blocks and dished out nine assists. Carson led the team with 14 digs.

On Saturday, the Lady Cyclones defeated the Glenrock Lady Herders, 3-0 (27-25, 25-10, 25-19).

Stoddard led the team with 11 kills, while Ekwall added seven and Anderson six. Anderson had a team-high four aces, and Carson added three aces and 18 assists. Junior Grace Desmond and Stoddard had two blocks each, and senior Becca Foos had 13 digs.

The win is the fourth straight for Southeast, improving the Lady Cyclones to 9-3 on the season.

Southeast heads southwest to face Saratoga at noon and Encampment at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
