Lady Cyclones second at SEWAC

PINE BLUFFS – The Southeast High School girls’ track and field team finished second at the annual SEWAC Championships on Saturday in Pine Bluffs.

The Lady Cyclones scored seven first-place finishes, including four from junior Jordan Stoddard.

Stoddard picked up wins in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, along with high jump and long jump.

In the 100-meter dash, her time of 12.82 seconds beat out the rest of the field, including teammates senior Emma Short, who finished fourth, and senior Hattie Waltermire and Bree Coxbill, who finished 14th and 15th, respectively.

In the 200-meter dash, Stoddard crossed the finish line in 26.84 seconds, while Short was fifth in 28.8 seconds.

Stoddard cleared 5 feet, 2 inches to win high jump and had a leap of 17-4 3/4 to finish atop the results in long jump.

Sophomore Shelby Ekwall, Coxbill and freshman Tylar Stoddard also got victories for the Lady Cyclones.

Ekwall won shotput with a personal record throw of 39-0 1/2. Harper Boche was fifth at 32-11 1/2, while Kodi Anderson was 11th and Sadie Cross 17th.

In discus, Coxbill’s throw of 101 feet won the event, beating out Ekwall, who placed second with a throw of 100-11. Boche was third with a personal record of 95-10. Anderson was 10th at 77-8.

Tylar Stoddard got the other win for the Southeast girls in the triple jump with a leap of 30-5. Kylie Lewellen was third at 28-7 3/4, while Waltermire placed ninth at 22-4 1/2.

Freshman Sasha Haines placed sixth in pole vault at 6-6.

In the relays, the sprint medley relay team of Short, Tylar Stoddard, Lewellen and Haines finished second in 5 minutes, 16.02 seconds, while the 4x100 team of Short, Waltermire, Haines and Tylar Stoddard placed third in 55.56 seconds. The 4x400 team of Haines, Lewellen, Tylar Stoddard and Kailey Porter was also third at 4:57.42.

As a team, the Lady Cyclones finished second with 119 points. Glenrock won the team title with 157 points. Pine Bluffs was third with 115.

In the boys’ division, the Cyclones had three victories on the day.

Junior Ryan Clapper had two individual wins and was a part of the 4x100 relay team who picked up a win.

Clapper won the 100 and 200-meter dashes in 11.25 seconds and 22.94 seconds, respectively.

Clapper was one of three Cyclones to place in the top eight, including seniors Brant Fullmer, who finished fourth and Reece Robertson, who placed fifth.

In the relay, the team of Fullmer, Grant Logsdon, Clapper and Robertson won the 4x100 in 46.71 seconds, while the sprint medley relay team of Wyatt Gladson, Zach Jurek, Lance York and Matthew Chapman finished fourth in 4:57.42.

In the other running events, freshman duo of Gladson and Jurek finished sixth and seventh in the 400-meter dash in 1:11.2 and 1:15.97, respectively, while sophomore Dawson Mullock was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.72 seconds.

In field events, Mullock finished second in long jump at 19-7, while Robertson was fourth at 18-9. In triple jump, Robertson was fifth at 38 feet, while Logsdon was seventh at 36-3 1/2. Logsdon also cleared 9 feet in pole vault to finish fifth.

In the throwing events, Tommy Mulkey placed third in shot put with a throw of 36-11 and fifth in discus at 100-8.

As a team, Southeast was fifth with 68.5 points. Glenrock won the team title with 154.5 points, while Lingle-Fort Laramie was second with 125.

Southeast heads to the 1A East Regional Meet on Friday and Saturday in Torrington. Action gets underway at Wiseman Field at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Cyclones also had a small group take part in Friday’s Wiseman Invite hosted by Torrington High School.

Logsdon finished ninth in the triple jump at 37-7 1/4 and placed 11th in pole vault at 9-9.

The 4x100 relay team of Clapper, Fullmer, Robertson and Logsdon finished fifth in 45.38 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Fullmer, Clapper, Logsdon and Mullock was fourth in 3:45.23.

In the girls’ division, the 4x400 team of Porter, Lewellen, Haines and Tylar Stoddard was seventh in 4:40.43.
