GLENROCK – The Southeast Lady Cyclones went 2-2 at the Class 2A East Regional Tournament to qualify for this week’s state tournament as a No. 4 seed.

In the opening round, Southeast breezed past Sundance 25-13, 25-11, 25-11.

Lady Cyclones 2-2 at regionals

GLENROCK – The Southeast Lady Cyclones went 2-2 at the Class 2A East Regional Tournament to qualify for this week’s state tournament as a No. 4 seed.

In the opening round, Southeast breezed past Sundance 25-13, 25-11, 25-11.

The Lady Cyclones were led by senior Hailey Anderson with 11 digs, nine kills and a block. Senior Ellie Schmitt dished out 15 assists, eight kills, six digs, two serving aces and two blocks.

The win advanced the No. 2-seeded Cyclones to the semifinal round against the top-seeded Wright Panthers.

The Panthers swept Southeast 25-9, 25-14, 25-17, and Anderson tallied six kills, five digs and two blocks, while Ellie Schmitt had seven assists, three kills, five digs and one block. Murphy added seven digs, while junior Morgan Ekwall had three digs, two kills and one assist.

The loss dropped the Lady Cyclones to a must-win match with the Big Horn Rams.

With a trip to the state tournament on the line, Southeast knocked off Big Horn 25-17 25-16, 25-20 to punch its ticket to state.

Anderson had 11 digs, 10 kills and two blocks.

In the third-place match with seeding on the line for the state tournament, Southeast fell to Glenrock, 3-2.

The Lady Cyclones won the first two sets 25-18, 25-15, but the Lady Herders stormed back to win the final three sets 25-21, 25-12, 15-5 dropping Southeast to a No. 4 seed for the state tournament.

In the final set, Glenrock jumped out to a 10-1 lead to cruise to a 10-point set win.

Anderson recorded a team-high 17 kills to go along with six digs and six aces. Schmitt dished out 16 assists, 13 kills, 10 digs and one ace, while sophomore Joycelynn Hottell had eight kills.

The Lady Cyclones (19-10) will open the Class 2A State Tournament against the top-seeded Greybull Buffaloes (25-3) at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Casper Events Center.
