NEWCASTLE – The Torrington Lady Trailblazers continued their hot streak, picking up a win over quadrant foe Newcastle on the road Friday for their fifth win in a row.
The Lady Blazers put the pedal to the medal in the first set, winning by 14 points (25-11). Torrington continued to roll in the second set 25-12, before closing out the win with a 25-15 advantage in the third and final set.
Adia Sherbeyn made major contributions at the service line, accounting for six of the Lady Blazers’ 16 aces. She also had two kills and a dig. Taylor Walsh was just behind Sherbeyn in the ace department, with four. The senior also accounted for 10 digs, which was a team high.
Logan Murphy, who also had two aces on the night, paced Torrington in kills, with 12, along with a block and two digs. Brooklyn Tucker was the other Lady Blazer with two aces, which she paired with three digs and a team-high 11 assists. Katelynn Wright, with six, and Morgan Bates, with five, also helped out in the assist department. The duo combined for an ace and three digs.
Ashley Schlagel was second on the team in kills, with five, along with three digs. Ona Albaugh, Paige Miller and Brielle Bivens each had two kills. The trio combined for an assist, an ace and three digs. Thirteen Lady Blazers took the floor in Torrington’s win.
The win put the Lady Blazers at 11-9 on the season with a 4-1 record in their quadrant. They trail only Douglas (20-7, 5-0) in the quadrant standings. The Lady Blazers took on the Lady Bearcats on Tuesday after press time. Torrington returns to their home court Saturday against Rawlins for Senior Night. The JV game is slated for 1 p.m., with varsity to follow at 2 p.m.
