Lady Blazers second in Cheyenne

CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School girls’ track and field team finished second at the Okie Blanchard Invite on Friday on the campus of Cheyenne East High School.

As a team, the Lady Blazers scored 113 points, finishing as the highest placing 3A team at the meet. Cheyenne Central won the team title with 137 points, while Cheyenne East was third with 104.

The Lady Blazers won five events on the day.

Leading the way was a pair of wins in the relays. Torrington won the 4x400 relay with members Tyne Stokes, Alyssa Wondercheck, Marissa Moorehouse and Tiffany Kruegger in 4 minutes, 18.30 seconds. Meanwhile, the 4x800 team of Amberly Froerer, Tiffany Krueger, Ada Merrigan and Stokes won in 10:55.45.

In the other relay, the 4x100 team of Reece Halley, Autumn Harris, Jaycee Hurley and Olive Osmera finished fifth in 54.69 seconds.

Stokes also picked up an individual win in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.31, winning the event by nearly a full second.

Halley and Hurley scored the other two wins for the Lady Blazers.

Halley threw 112 feet, 7 inches to win discus, beating out teammate Sierra Allen, who finished second at 100-2. Emma Johnson placed ninth at 83-6.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Hurley won the race in 50.71 seconds. She also scored team points, placing seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.5 seconds, while Halley finished eighth in 18.2 seconds.

Hurley also finished third in the 100-meter dash in 13.02 seconds, while Wondercheck finished seventh. In the 200-meter dash, Marissa Moorehouse finished seventh, while Wondercheck crossed the finish line 10th.

In the distance events, Merrigan placed sixth in 5:55.78, while Froerer was ninth in 6:17.57.

In the other field events, Allison Brummell made her season debut, finishing second in high jump at 5-2. In pole vault, Mattie Jones finished third, clearing 9-8, while Gabrielle David was seventh at 7-8.

In the jumping events, Wondercheck finished fourth in long jump at 16-6.75, beating out Moorehouse, who finished fifth at 16-6. In triple jump, Moorehouse finished fourth at 33-0.5.

In shot put, the Lady Blazers had three place in the top eight, led by Teryn Stokes, who finished sixth, with a toss of 32-3, while Johnson was seventh at 32-2 and Allen eighth at 31-9.

In the boys’ division, the Blazers finished fourth with 76 points. Cheyenne Central won the team title with 161 points, while Cheyenne East was second with 121.

Tyler Bennick led the Blazers, sweeping the throwing events. In shot put, his toss of 46-2 won the event by just shy of two feet. Trey Parriott was seventh at 39-3, and Brayden Frazier was eighth at 38 feet. Ryan Baker was 12th at 36-6.

In discus, Bennick’s throw of 133-2 won the event. Baker was 14th, while Parriott was 17th and Frazier 19th.

Aydan Loya and the sprint medley relay also picked up wins on the day.

Loya won the 800-meter run in 2:02.23, while the relay team of Benjamin Fuller, Brendan Flock, Loya and Weston Cronk won in 3:51.33.

Flock and Fuller also picked up a pair of runner-up finishes. Flock placed second in the 200-meter dash in 22.55 seconds, while Fuller was second in long jump at 20-7. Fuller was also second in 300-meter hurdles in 44.36 seconds.

Flock finished fourth in the 100-meter dash in fourth in 10.99 seconds, while Cronk was fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:56.34.

Torrington track teams are back in action on Thursday at the Burns Invite.
