Lady Blazers score three wins in Douglas

DOUGLAS – The Torrington High School volleyball team wrapped up its first weekend of action with a 3-3 record at the Douglas Invite.

The Lady Blazers went 1-2 on day one before going 2-1 on day two.

Torrington dropped its first match of the season to Alliance, Nebraska on Friday, 2-0 (25-12, 25-16).

Senior Marissa Moorehouse led the team with five kills, while junior Alyssa Albaugh added four. Seniors Kayla Dreiling and Avey Jespersen served up two aces apiece, while senior Jade Brothwell tallied the team’s lone block of the match. Dreiling also had a team-high nine digs. Senior Kalissa Reyes had a team-high seven assists, while Brothwell added six.

The Lady Blazers bounced back with a 2-0 (26-24, 25-11) sweep of Glenrock.

Albaugh had nine kills, while Dreiling had six. Torrington served up six aces, including two from Albaugh while four others had one each. Dreiling also had one block, and Reyes had 14 assists.

Torrington wrapped up Friday’s action with a 2-0 (25-10, 25-11) loss to 3A East Regional foe Newcastle.

The Lady Blazers had six kills for the entire match, including two from Albaugh and Moorehouse. Albaugh and Brothwell had one block each, while sophomore Olive Osmera and Reyes had four digs each. Reyes also had four assists.

On Saturday, Torrington opened the day with a pair of wins over Glenrock and Wright.

Against Glenrock, the Lady Herders took set one 25-21, but the Lady Blazers responded with two straight set wins 25-19, 25-10 to pick up the win.

Dreiling tallied a team-high eight kills, while Moorehouse added seven. As a team, Torrington served up eight aces, including three each from Albaugh and Brothwell. Brothwell also dished out 12 assists.

Against Wright, the teams traded wins in the first two sets. It took Torrington 31 points to put away the Lady Panthers 31-29 in the opening set, but Wright battled back to win set two 25-18. In the deciding set, the Lady Blazers won 15-10.

Moorehouse led the team with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Dreiling and Albaugh had six kills apiece. Reyes handed out 14 assists, while Brothwell had two.

In the final match of the weekend, Torrington fell to Moorcroft 2-0 (25-22, 25-21).

The Lady Blazers (3-3) travel to Rawlins (0-5) on Friday, Sept. 2 to open 3A Southeast Quadrant play. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
