TORRINGTON – The Torrington Lady Blazer volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the regular season Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, the Scottsbluff (Neb.) Bearcats spoiled Torrington’s Senior Night, handing the Lady Blazers a 3-1 (17-25, 28-26, 25-10, 25-23) loss.
“It was a pretty even match,” THS coach Chelsi Jackson said. “We’ve been playing a roller coaster game lately. We’d play really well and then we can’t carry it over to the next set.”
Senior Brielle Bivens led the team with nine kills, while Michaela Moorehouse added seven. Sophomore Morgan Bates dished out 12 assists, while senior Katelynn Wright added 11.
Defensively, senior Nakayln Garner tallied a team-high six blocks, while Bivens added four. Sophomore Emily McGaugh led the team with 12 digs.
On Friday, Torrington headed southwest to face Rawlins, the No. 2 team in Class 3A.
The Lady Blazers were swept 25-20, 25-10, 25-12 to end the regular season.
“The first set was pretty close. Then we played the roller coaster game again,” Jackson said. “If we can find some consistency, we’ll be fine for regionals this weekend.”
Garner had a team-high five kills, while Bivens added three. Bates recorded six assists, while Wright had five.
Defensively, Moorehouse had four blocks, while freshman Reese Halley and junior Dani Masterson had three each.
Torrington hosts the Class 3A East Regional Tournament Friday and Saturday at Willi Gym. The Lady Blazers open the tournament against Thermopolis at 10:45 a.m. If they win they will play again at 4 p.m. against the winner of Douglas and Wheatland, while a loss would drop them to the 9 a.m. match Saturday.
