NEWCASTLE – The Torrington Lady Blazers were handed two losses on the road this weekend, falling to Douglas on Friday, 65-37, and Newcastle on Saturday, 32-29.

Douglas 65, Torrington 37
Seven different Lady Blazers scored against Douglas on Friday, with Sydney Hill leading the way with nine points. The senior also had four rebounds, a steal and four blocks. Adia Sherbeyn contributed seven points for the Lady Blazers on 3-of-4 shooting. She accounted for three boards.
Brooklyn Tucker, Taylor Walsh and Shelbey Prusia all poured in five points apiece. They combined to go 3-of-10 from the field and 9-of-16 from the charity stripe. The three combined for five rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Tucker led Torrington in assists, with four, tying with Prusia for the lead in steals at three each.
Logan Murphy, who had four points on the night, led Torrington is rebounds, with seven. She added an assists and three steals to her stat sheet.

“Against Douglas, we really played pretty well,” coach Jeff Halley said. “Defensively, we took away where they hurt us, but they found more threats to score. We had a one-point lead after the first and were down 10 at half, but their bench wore us down in the second half.”
In the loss, Torrington shot 42 percent from the field. The Lady Blazers missed their only two three-pointers but still knocked down 13 shots. From the free-throw line, Torrington hit 11-of-24.

Newcastle 32, Torrington 29
“On Saturday in another very physical game, we did everything right – except score. We played great defense and held them to 11 first-half points and 32 total,” Halley said. “We turned them over numerous times with our pressure and rebounded the ball pretty well. We just couldn’t put the ball in the basket.”
Hill was the leading scorer for the second game in a row on Saturday, with 12. She shot 6-of-13 from inside the arc against the Lady Dogies. Hill accounted for four boards, a steal and three blocks as well.
Walsh’s seven points were second for the Lady Blazers, with three of her points came from the free-throw line. She chipped in two rebounds, an assist and a steal for Torrington. Murphy accounted for only four points, but led the Lady Blazers in rebounds (10), assists (6) and steals (5). Torrington was without Kaelyn Riley on Saturday due to injury.
Torrington’s shooting percentage dropped to 28 percent on Saturday. The team put up five three-pointers, but could not get any of them to fall.
“At one point early in the fourth quarter, we were up 26-17, but slowly watched that lead disappear as the shots continued to not fall,” Halley said. “It was a frustrating loss, but one that we can learn from and be better in the future.”
After the two losses, the Lady Blazers sit at 7-10 this winter, with a 2-3 record in their quadrant. They return home for games against Wheatland Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Rawlins Saturday at 3 p.m.
