Lady Blazers 10th, Blazers 11th at state

SHERIDAN – Torrington freshman Sera Glass turned in the best finish among all Trailblazers on Saturday at the state cross-country meet, snagging 12th to pace the Lady Blazers to a 10th-place finish.

Glass turned in her best time of the fall, finishing in 20:58.78 to take 12th, less than a second before the 13th-place girl.

Jaiden Hopkins was the next Lady Blazer to finish, snagging 49th with a time of 23:29.62. Not far behind, Torrington senior Renee Cline took 53rd place, clocking a time of 23:37. 69. Brittany Schlager was one spot behind Cline, turning in a time of 23:41.62, giving her 54th. Both Schlager and Cline turned in season-best times. Shelby Schainost was the final Lady Blazer to compete, taking 66th with a time of 24:28.62.

The Lady Blazers finished with an average time of 23:15.27. Led by Glass’ 12 points, the Lady Blazers finished with 234 points in the team race, finishing just behind Riverton (225), but ahead of Wheatland (241). Star Valley took the top spot with 50 points, edging out Cody by one points (51). Worland rounded out the top-three in the girls race, earning 187 points.

Torrington senior William Fluckiger turned in the top time among all Blazers, taking 28th in the boys race with a time of 18:09.53, his third fastest time of the year. Pake Haun was the second Blazer to cross the line, finishing in 19:24.88 to take 57th. Tristen Kingsley was just behind Haun, turning in a time of 19:29.72 to snag 59th. The state meet was the first time this season that Kingsley finished under 20 minutes.

Less than 10 seconds behind Kingsley, Jacob Polkowske wrapped up his race, finishing 64th with a time of 19:39.24. Quentin Meyer snagged 68th with a time of 19:44.52. Polkowske and Meyer took the two final scoring spots for the Blazers.

Although their scores did not count for the team score, Anthony Munoz and Cameron Juma both raced at the state meet. Munoz took 75th with a season-record time of 19:57.56, while Juma slid into the 93rd position with a time of 21:21.88.

In the team race, the Torrington boys amassed 271 points. Newcastle finished one spot ahead of Torrington (10th), with 262 points, while Lyman took 12th with 286 points. Star Valley took the top spot at a team for the sixth year in a row, tallying 22 points. Cody finished second with 78 points, while Worland took third with 108 points.
