TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School girls’ tennis team remained unbeaten on Tuesday when they defeated the Cheyenne East Thunderbirds 5-0 in a nonconference matchup.
“Our girls did some really good things and continue to get better. We will be working on staying consistent through matches and finishing this week,” coach Curtis Birkley said.
In singles action, Sera Glass defeated Nedra McAlpine, 6-2, 6-0, while Jenessa Derby knocked off Sydney O’Brian 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles action, Tyne Stokes and Jacee Shields won 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles division, while Trisha Cates and Bethany Wunibald won the No. 2 doubles match 6-4, 7-5.
In the No. 3 doubles match, Sydney Harris and Theona Haines overcame a first set loss to knock off Cheyenne East, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Torrington tennis teams are back in action in Laramie against Rock Springs and Green River on Friday, Aug. 21. Action gets underway at noon. Torrington will return home on Tuesday, Aug. 25 for a match against Cheyenne South at 4:30 p.m.
