LINGLE – After splitting the first two sets Thursday with Burns, the Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers won the third and fourth sets to seal the win at home.
“Thursday night was much more fun than Tuesday night [a loss to Southeast],” coach Barb Clark said. “We played much better. We passed the ball better which allowed our offense to run much smoother.”
The Lady Doggers looked to be in firm control in the first set, ballooning their lead to 11-3. Burns managed to chip away at the L-FL lead and brought the game to within two points three separate times, including 19-17. The Lady Doggers then rattled off six points in a row to seal the set win, 25-17.
To open the second set, the two teams traded the first 11 points, before Burns started pulling away. The Lady Doggers tied the game up at 11, 12 and 14, but never held a lead larger than two points. With the game tied at 14, Burns never gave up the lead for the remainder of the set, pulling out the 25-20 win.

After trailing for much of the second set, L-FL didn’t trail for a single point in the third set. They scored the first point and never looked back, taking the 25-18 win. The two teams again traded points to open the fourth set, but after the game was tied at five, L-FL took control, racking up a double-digit lead and picking up the set-win 25-14.
The Lady Doggers recorded an 88 percent serving percentage, with six aces, four of which came from Jordyn Gaspers.
“Jordyn Gaspers served the ball very well,” Clark said. “She forced Burns to play many balls our of system, taking them out of their offense.”
Sierra Spears and Paige Forkner combined for the other two. Gaspers was also second on the team in kills, with four.
Amanda Riley paced the team in the kill department, racking up 12 in the win. She rounded out her game with two blocks and four digs. Spears and Gaspers combined for 11 kills. Jade Cooper led L-FL in digs, with 20. She also added 20 assists in the game.
The Lady Doggers return to the court Friday on the road against Guernsey-Sunrise. The varsity game is set for 5 p.m. After starting the season with its home tournament and two home games, L-FL doesn’t return to its home court until Sept. 21.
“Our fans have been great this year so far and we hope they stay with us,” Clark said. “It is great to have so much encouragement and noise in the gym.”
