L-FL track teams open season at Binfield

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School track and field teams took a small group to the season opening Wayne Binfield Track and Field Meet on Saturday in Scottsbluff.

In the 79th edition of the meet, only four teams – North Platte, Neb., Scottsbluff, Torrington and L-FL, showed up to compete.

L-FL track teams open season at Binfield

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School track and field teams took a small group to the season opening Wayne Binfield Track and Field Meet on Saturday in Scottsbluff.

In the 79th edition of the meet, only four teams – North Platte, Neb., Scottsbluff, Torrington and L-FL, showed up to compete.

Freshman Kyland Fuller, sophomore Cooper Hill and senior Jordyn Gaspers highlighted the day for the Doggers.

The trio picked up a combined five top five finishes.

Fuller placed second in the 400-meter dash in 56.81 seconds while finishing third in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 15.42 seconds.

In jumping events, Hill finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 1/2 inch while placing fifth in long jump at 18-3. Hill also qualified for the finals of the 200-meter dash but did not the start the race the finals event.

The Doggers had a slew of throwers compete, led by sophomore Cordell Forkner, who picked up a pair of top 10s in the throwing events. He finished seventh in the shot put at 41 feet, 7 inches while placing eighth in discus at 114-8.

Juniors Degan Davis and Caeden Riley finished 13th and 14th, respectively, in shot put, while junior Lane Freouf placed 25th.

In discus, Davis was 13th and Freouf was 24th.

Gaspers earned the Lady Doggers only top five finish of the day in the high jump. She cleared 4 feet, 2 inches to finish fifth. She also finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 29-2 and placed 11th in long jump at 12-7.5.

Freshman Sarah Searle was the only other Lady Dogger competing, finishing 15th in shot put with a toss of 19 feet and coming home 17th in discus with a throw of 40-9.

As a team, the Doggers placed fourth with 27 points, while the Lady Doggers also finished fourth, ending the day with 5.5 points.

The L-FL track teams head to the Bayard, Neb. CD Invite on Saturday.
