SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School track and field team returned to action for the second time in four days with both Dogger teams finishing fifth at Scottsbluff’s Twilight Invitational.
Senior Kaelyn Riley led the charge for the Lady Doggers with four individual wins on the day.
She topped the 100-meter dash in 12.9 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 27 seconds, the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 03.39 seconds and the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 10. 25 inches.
L-FL junior Savannah Mirich also picked up a pair of medals in the throwing events.
Mirich’s toss of 33-8 in shot put was good for second place while placing sixth in discus with a distance of 91-1.
The Lady Doggers also saw two relay teams place in the top six.
The 4x400 team of Cora Frederick, Jordyn Gaspers, Kalli Nichol and Jenny Manus placed fifth in 5:18.55, while the 4x100 team of Nichol, Gaspers, Emily Hatch and Frederick finished sixth in 1:04.02.
Frederick also came home fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 14:40.97, just ahead of Manus, who placed fifth. Frederick also crossed the finish line seventh in the 800-meter run, while Manus placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run.
As a team, the Lady Doggers finished fifth with 58 points. Scottsbluff won the team title with 115, while Sidney, Neb., was second with 106.
In the boys’ division, the 4x800-meter relay team of Kyland Fuller, Cooper Hill, Alex Pugsley and Dustin Swartwood led the Doggers with a third-place finish in 10:16.20.
The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, consisting of the same four individuals as the 4x800, finished fifth in both races, while Fuller placed sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:14.28.
In field events, sophomore Cordell Forkner finished seventh in shot put with a toss of 39-10.5, while Hill placed fifth in long jump at 18-7.5.
Aa a team, the Doggers scored 15 points to place fifth. Scottsbluff won the team title with 158 points. Gering, Neb., was second with 134.
The Doggers return to Scottsbluff on Tuesday, for the Best in the West Classic. Field events begin at 4:30 p.m. with track events starting at 6 p.m. L-FL will also travel to Lusk for the Zowada Invite on Saturday, April 27.
