L-FL powers past Wright

LINGLE – A trio of Lingle-Fort Laramie backs rushed for more than 145 yards during Friday’s 56-8 win over the Wright Panthers.

“We really came back together on Friday. I was very proud of how they snapped back and had a hard-working, positive attitude,” L-FL coach Matt Cornelius said. “We had some really neat things happen. We had a couple guys do some things they haven’t done all year and their career.”

It took two plays for senior running back Ty Prall to bust the first of many big runs for the Doggers, breaking free for 61 yards. Three plays later, senior quarterback Cooper Hill raced into the end zone.

It was the first of 42 first-half points for the Doggers, who took a 42-0 lead into the half.

Prall, sophomore Slade Hopkins, Hill found the end zone in the first half.

The Doggers capped off the half with their only pass play of the game when Hill found Prall for 10-yard touchdown pass.

Wright’s only points of the game came on its opening drive of the second quarter.

With 8:21 left in the third quarter, Wright connected on a 17-yard pass, adding the two-point conversion.

Six minutes later, Lingle answered with Hopkins’ third rushing touchdown of the game.

Twenty seconds later, Prall broke free for an 18-yard run to put the Doggers in front 56-8, kicking in the running clock rule for the remainder of the game.

Hill led the Doggers with 206 yards rushing, while Prall added 182 and Hopkins 145.

“Cooper Hill always does a great job for us,” Cornelius said. “He had a really great game. Ty Prall also ran the ball well. Slade Hopkins ran the ball the best he ever has.”

Hill completed his only pass of the game for 10 yards to Prall for a touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, Hill led the Doggers with 13 defensive points, including four unassisted tackles and one for a loss. Sophomore Owen Schileff added 11 points, recovering one of three Wright fumbles.

“We also had some young kids come out and surprise us. Wyatt Sylvester, who had a couple unassisted tackles. Owen Schileff had a career day for us. Jessy Valentine did a great job on the line of scrimmage,” Cornelius said. “It is a really big thing especially coming off the loss the week before. Having multiple kids step up was a pleasant surprise for us, and we’ll hope to keep that going into this weekend.”

The Doggers (2-1) are back in action Friday on the road in Lusk against the Niobrara County Tigers (3-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

“We are going to have to play well to snag a W in Lusk on their Homecoming,” Cornelius said. “Hopefully, we’ll roll with the momentum into Lusk.”
