LINGLE – Bailey Surratt and Clay Peterson have been named “Doggers of the Quarter” for the third quarter of the 2017-18 school year at Lingle-Fort Laramie High School here.

These students were selected by the L-FL faculty based upon their extraordinary work ethic, extracurricular involvement, and leadership, according to a release from the school. Both of these students provide strong leadership in multiple areas, setting a high standard for all Lingle-Ft. Laramie students. They devote the time it takes to be strong academically and balance that with a full schedule of extra-curricular activities.

Senior, Bailey Surratt, daughter of Ron and Debbie Surratt, is currently serving as the president of both Future Business Leaders of America and Student Council. She is also serving as the secretary for Future Farmers of America and National Honor Society. Outside of school, Bailey stays active by helping with church activities, waitressing at The Bucking Horse Steak House, and collecting pop-tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charity in
Denver, Colo.

Her many achievements include being selected as Goshen County’s representative for Wyoming Girls’ State, earning fourth place in the state for Wyoming FBLA Job Interview, participating in the Wyoming All-State Marching Band, and representing Goshen County at the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp. Her hobbies and interests consist of music, playing with her dogs, being with her friends and shopping.

Bailey thanked all of her teachers, past and present, for pushing her to be the best that she can be. She also thanked her parents and grandma for always supporting her in all that she does. Lastly, she thanked the community for always supporting the organizations and clubs she has been involved in.

Bailey plans to go to the University of Wyoming and major in Speech, Language, and Hearing Science. She looks forward to all of the new opportunities that she will get to experience outside of Torrington.

Senior, Clay Peterson, is the son of Clay Peterson and Valerie Peterson. He is currently a member of Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, and National Honor Society. Clay also plays tennis for Torrington High School.

Outside of school Clay is a part of the Platte Valley Music Association and works with his family on the farm. Throughout his high school career, Clay tallied up many accomplishments, including third place at Regional Tennis in #2 singles, Blue Ribbon Winner at the PVMA competition, third place at State FBLA in Business Communication, and being a National FBLA Qualifier. This spring, he was also named as a Daniels Fund Scholarship recipient.

Clay’s hobbies include playing piano, tennis, watching Netflix, reading and sleeping. Clay thanked Mrs. Bergeson for always pushing him to work harder, Mrs. Cornelius for bringing out the artsy kid in him, and the rest of the teachers at Lingle-Ft. Laramie who have always supported him.

Clay’s future plans include either attending the University of Washington-Seattle, which is one of the most prestigious medical programs in the country, or pursuing a career in acting and music entertainment. Clay is most excited about broadening his horizons beyond small town Wyoming.
