L-FL girls eyeing postseason turnaround

DOUGLAS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers have fallen in nine-straight games to close out the regular season, but they are looking to reverse that trend this weekend at the 1A East Regional Tournament.

Coming in as the third seed from the 1A Southeast, the Lady Doggers played Kaycee, the northeast’s two-seed, on Thursday after press time. The two teams should be familiar with each other because they squared off on Feb. 9, with Kaycee taking the 57-38 win.

If the Lady Doggers secured an upset win, they advance to play the winner between Rock River and Midwest, but with a loss Thursday, L-FL would play the loser between the Lady Oilers and Lady Longhorns. Rock River is the top seed from the 1A Southeast, finishing the regular season at 16-5, while Midwest is the fourth seed from the northeast with a 2-17 record. L-FL has not seen the Longhorns this winter, but did pick up a 46-9 win over the Lady Oilers on Dec. 16.

Arvada-Clearmont is the top team on the other side of the bracket, coming into the postseason with a 16-5 record, including a 6-0 mark against the three other northeast teams. Hanna-Elk Mountain, Hulett and Guernsey-Sunrise round out the other three teams from the other portion of the tournament. HEM is currently rocking an 8-12 record and is second in the 1A Southeast, while Hulett is 8-11 on the year and the Lady Vikings are 3-14.

L-FL beat the Lady Red Devils early on in the season (Dec. 15) in a 57-49 game. Two of the Lady Doggers’ wins this year came against Guernsey-Sunrise, beating them 52-48 on Jan. 6 and 56-32 on Jan. 18.

The Lady Doggers need to turn their fortunes around to finish in the top-four of the regional tournament to punch their ticket for state. If L-FL snaps its skid and makes some waves in Douglas, they could be in a good position to head to Casper.
