L-FL Doggers seventh in Mitchell

MITCHELL, Neb. – Three Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers placed at the Mitchell Invite on Saturday to give the Doggers a seventh-place finish, led by Zane Rising who took first at 145 pounds.

Rising started his day with a bye, followed by a 20-4 technical fall over Kaden Leonard (Scottsbluff JV). Rising followed that up by pinning his way to the title, pinning John Thomas (Mitchell), followed by a pin over Burns/Pine Bluffs’ Tate Kelly in the third period of the championship match.

Gaven Niles snagged third at 126 pounds for the Doggers. He had an opening round bye, before falling by pin at the 2:43-mark to Jake Chasek (Mitchell) to drop to the consolation bracket. In the lower bracket, Niles pinned Bridgeport’s Alex Barnette in 31 seconds. Niles won by pin over Zach Curdney (Burns/Pine Bluffs) in the second period to take third.

Dustin Swartwood was the final Dogger to place, taking third at 152 pounds. He had a bye and lost his next match against Marcus Carrillo (Mitchell) at the 5:06-mark. Swartwood had another bye in the consolation bracket, putting him in the third-place match, where he won by a 15-13 decision over Bridgeport’s Damien Bell.

Joel Costello (106) picked up a win in his opening match by an 8-1 decision over Scottsbluff’s Joseph Soto. In the semi-final, Costello was pinned in the first period by Morrill’s Tyler Nagel, before falling via pin against Southeast’s Kaden Brothwell in the third period.

Alex Pugsley started his day with a loss via pin in the first period against Justin Chasek (Mitchell). In the consolation semi-finals, Pugsley lost by pin at the 3:45-mark against Minatare’s Carlos Martinez.

Jessy Valentine (220) was the final Dogger to compete in Mitchell. He lost his first match by pin in the first period against Bridgeport’s Tyler Franklin, before going the distance against Thayne Vialpando (Burns/Pine Bluffs) in a 5-4 decision loss.

The Doggers tallied 47.5 team points to finish seventh, finishing behind 59 points from Kimball, Neb. Bridgeport, Neb. took the team title with 176.5 points, with Mitchell (158) and Morrill, Neb. (125) closing out the top three.

L-FL returns to the mat Saturday to compete in the Southeast Duals in Yoder, starting at 9:30 a.m.
