MITCHELL, Neb. – The Lingle-Fort Laramie track teams placed in the top-eight in eight events Thursday at the Mitchell Invite, with the boys finishing seventh and girls sliding to 17th.
“Although the team scores did not reflect it, I thought we competed much better on Thursday in Mitchell than we did the week before,” coach Mike Lashley said. “The level of competition was much better than we will even see at the state meet.”
Landen Fuller continued his solid season, picking up the silver in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.69 seconds. In the 200, he posted a time of 23.18 seconds to finish fourth.
Fuller linked up with Cole Shepardson, Hayden Hill and Rhett Greenwald for the 400-meter relay, finishing in 46.86 seconds, finishing fifth.
Greenwald resumed his solid day in individual events. He finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.52 seconds. In the pole vault, he cleared 10 feet, 6 inches, taking seventh.
The Doggers racked up 21 points as a team at the Mitchell Invite, tying Burns for seventh in the standings. Sidney, Neb. secured the top spot with 102 points, with Gering, Neb. sliding into second with 90 points. Host Mitchell rounded out the top-three with 80 points.
Girls
L-FL’s 3200-meter relay team, comprised of Cora Frederick, Jenna Kaufman, Shelby Heilbrun and Jenny Manus, had the best finish among the Lady Doggers, securing sixth in the event with a time of 11:47.56. Also on the track, Kaufman clocked a time of 2:42.71 in the 800 to take seventh.
Jordyn Gaspers rounded out the top-eight competitors. She had a 4-foot, 6-inch effort in the high jump to secure seventh.
Kaylan Maez just missed the top-eight, finishing ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.55 seconds.
In the girls team race, L-FL recorded one point to finish 17th, just behind Hay Springs’ four points. It was a tight race at the top of the standings, with Sidney, Neb. taking first with 93.5 points. Gering, Neb. and host Mitchell were not far behind, with 92 and 89 points, respectively, to finish second and third.
The Doggers return to action Wednesday for the Wheatland Invitational, followed by the Burns Invitational on Thursday.
“We are entering a very difficult phase in our training,” Lashley said. “Add to that the fact that we are attending two meets this week, and our athletes are going to be stressed both physically and mentally.”
